Looks like we have another case of a well known member of the gaming press having a intimate relationship with an employee on the Developer/Publisher side of the industry.

Tyler Wilde, most recently known for his article calling for an end to the term “PC Master Race” has been outed by Pro-Gamergate sub-reddit r/KotakuInAction as having an undisclosed relationship with the Communications Associate at Ubisoft Ann Marie Lewis (@BDRAnneLewis)

T9JH1HZWhile such a relationship is not inherently a cause for concern, the lack of disclosure in the articles written by Mr. Tyler Wilde at PC Gamer while covering Ubisoft games and press releases reveals once again that the often lampooned call for ‘better ethics in gaming media’ has a long way to go before any kind of universal transparency can be reached.

Currently on the front page of Reddit with over 2000 upvotes, poster Logan_Mac claims that while collecting information about Mr Wilde, he had encountered actions seemingly attempting to cover up this relationship.

He even tried covering this up, he changed his Facebook profile picture while we were saving stuff https://i.imgur.com/i5nd27y.jpg. These two live together, and the guy did a lot more articles on Ubisoft, never disclosed it

More: here he recommended Far Cry 4 without having played it https://archive.today/ZTeBq

here he shilled Watch Dogs on his Youtube channel, video is now unavailable https://imgur.com/nyWcTl7

They used to work together on a podcast called Lasertime https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:MHz7ivNkCDEJ:tdar.wikia.com/wiki/Lasertime+&cd=14&hl=en&ct=clnk&client=palemoon-a

All her mentions to Tyler here https://archive.today/evvES

Confirming it’s her boyfriend https://archive.today/SSBLo

PC Gamer’s editor-in-chief knew about the relationship https://archive.today/QrMiO

The most damning information coming out of this is that that the Global Editor-In-Chief of PC Gamer Tim Clark was apparently aware of this relationship and has been duplicitous in allowing Tyler to report on Ubisoft without disclosing his relationship.

  • Tyrannikos

It’s the perfect relationship – Tyler wants to end the “PC Master Race” term and Ubisoft really doesn’t want PC players to have any sort of standards! What a duo!

    • Mr0303

His personal opinion on that term is not relevant to the issue. As we’ve seen recently Ubisoft’s PC ports are horrendous and having this undisclosed relationship is worrying to say the least.

      • Tyrannikos

Christ, I understand the situation, back off. I was making a crappy joke at these moron’s expense. This is the second time you’ve gotten all serious, trying to “properly educate” me on some matter.

        • Mr0303

I myself don’t remember you. I don’t know why you feel attacked. I’m not trying to educate anyone it is just worth mentioning that the focus should be his relationships rather than his personal opinions. This is what affects us as gamers.

          • Tyrannikos

I know where the focus should be. If you’re too socially inept to see what is an obvious joke at some jerk’s expense, then just don’t bother replying to any of my comments.

Some people need to make jokes about crappy situations to be able to carry on. I need to make jokes in between the numerous emails I write everyday to help further our cause as gamers. Stop being a preachy know-it-all. I know where we stand.

          • Mr0303

I’m not criticising your initial comment. I made an extension. And why are you so offended that somebody replied to you?

            “Stop being a preachy know-it-all.”
What in my comment was preaching?

          • Tyrannikos

My last reply because I hate clogging up comments with rampant off-topic conversations.

I’m not offended that somebody replied to me. I’m baffled that somebody made a serious reply that is filled with the stink of correction to an obvious joke. I’m confused that somebody would take a joke and start talking to me with the assumption I don’t understand the situation. It’s flat out ignorance that is annoying, not the fact that you replied to me.

“I’m not trying to educate anyone it is just worth mentioning that the focus should be his relationships rather than his personal opinions. This is what affects us as gamers.”
That comment isn’t an extension to my initial post – it’s you taking an all too serious tone in an attempt to shut down a simple wisecrack. Who are you to attempt to redirect my focus anyways?
Screw off, telling me where my focus should be like I don’t know. I do my part for this movement with pride and diligence. I’ll let loose a few shitty one-liners here and there in the process.

“His personal opinion on that term is not relevant to the issue.” Luckily, I wasn’t trying to make a statement that was relevant to the overall issue – I was connecting two issues that I couldn’t connect before this news broke. Other people clearly got it fine and if they didn’t (or flat out thought what I said was lame), they never replied trying to dictate where my focus should be.
Your inability to recognize a comment meant for a laugh combined with the flat out annoying assumption that I don’t understand the situation at hand is a nuisance. That’s all. No offense taken.

There’s nothing left for me to say.

          • Mr0303

“My last reply because I hate clogging up comments with rampant off-topic conversations.”

What I said was not off topic.

“I’m not offended that somebody replied to me. I’m baffled that somebody made a serious reply”

And yet you are the one that is taking thing way too seriously and personal for some odd reason.

“filled with the stink of correction”

OK, let’s examine what I corrected in your initial post. Did I say your joke was not funny? Did I say he didn’t want to end the term? If anything I agreed that Ubisoft’s PC ports are horrible.

“I’m confused that somebody would take a joke and start talking to me with the assumption I don’t understand the situation.”

Oh please, do tell me what assumptions I made when I posted my reply. Plus it is you who started taking it personally as this reply was meant for you and only you and not posted on a public forum.

“attempt to shut down a simple wisecrack”

Yeah, my response which has nearly nothing to do with your joke somehow made it less funny. Sorry I heckled your standup.

“Screw off, telling me where my focus should be like I don’t know.”
So you are the one using personal attacks for no good reason (since I’m not telling you to do anything). You could’ve chosen to ignore what I’ve written, but no – you chose to be baffled and offended and generally behaving like a princess that was pinched on the arse.

I apologize that my reply affected your life ever so much. I will never reply to you again as you are a humourless person, who doesn’t want to be challenged or even spoken to. I will never “bother” you again.

There’s nothing left for me to say.

          • TheScienceEnthusiast1130

So you think that Tyrannikos is humourless? Actually, you are describing yourself…

And to think that PC gamer was once a cool website…

  • And posting this just got you banned on NeoGAF, they swing the Ban Hammer very fast these days. Maybe they hate disturbing noises in their echo chamber.

    • Only for a month, they’re staunchly against anything gamergate related so it’s not surprising.

      • JoeSislack

I wouldn’t be surprised if their ‘definition’ of what is gamergate related will extend to anything the is critical of what they like.

Talking bad about Sony? Three month ban for obviously being part of the GG agenda.

    • lucben999

Wait, did he actually post on NeoGAF or are they rummaging through the Internet looking for excuses to ban users for posts outside of their forums?

      • Pinkerbelle Merrick

They rummage through the internet looking for excuses to ban anyone even remotely associated with “pro-GG” speech/actions..

They don’t even need solid evidence, just an accusation..

    • TheScienceEnthusiast1130

      It is a Jesuit-controlled dictatorship on NeoGAF…

      🙁

  • Brian Hall

Its a bad time to be a pc gamer employee bonking a ubisoft comms lady.

  • Diselt

The Tyler guy should’ve simply came clean about it and all this bad press could’ve been avoided. There should never be rules and regulations on who you decide to have a relationship with, but at the same time you should adhere to company policy (when it’s fair) about these sorts of things. In the end, he gets to keep his job but his Ubisoft-related articles have been removed and as long as he’s in the relationship with her (or she remains with Ubisoft) then he can’t write any articles related to them.

So basically, in the end, the appropriate actions were taken, no one loses their jobs, and everyone’s happy. One of the better GG-related stories I’ve seen so far, at least.

  • Spencer

Except it’s none of anyone’s business if they’re In a relationship, and being in one with someone who happens to work at Ubisoft doesn’t mean anything. There is no reason to disclose something like that.

That’s like making a reporter for the New York Times have a giant banner at the beginning of every article about food stating that he’s dating someone who works at Panera Bread. Who gives a shit?

If he were giving all glowing reviews to all Ubisoft games that other reviewers were panning, maybe it would be cause for concern. This? This is just pathetic pandering. Grow up.
