Video game movies are still being made, and I’m not going to even humor the idea that any given adaptation will somehow “fix” the notoriously bad genre. Nonetheless, they can still make for a fun watch, even if they’re poorly made, or laughably unfaithful to the source material. So I won’t belittle anyone who has a bit of excitement to see the Warcraft series on the big screen. Blizzard have finally shown off the official trailer for the Warcraft movie during this year’s Blizzcon.
From Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures comes Warcraft, an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based on Blizzard Entertainment’s global phenomenon.
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.
So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
The film is set to release on the 10th of June 2016. Directed by Duncan Jones who was behind 2009 sci-fi film Moon; Warcraft stars Travis Fimmell as Anduin Lothar, and Toby Kebbell as the orc Durotan.
The visuals shown here are…questionable. The illusion kinda gets ruined when any humans are on-screen. The orc scenes look like some stunning FMVs, but the humans being live-action actors shoehorned in via green-screen does a bit of damage to the fantasy. Personally, I’m not holding out any hope, but maybe it’ll be an enjoyable enough flick when it comes out next Summer.
