Capcom has announced a Resident Evil themed online multiplayer shooter entitled ‘Umbrella Corps.‘ Built in Unity, the game will focus on competitive team based matches (up to six players) and features a single player mode called ‘The Experiment’ for players who want to familiarise themselves with the controls and systems of Umbrella Corps. It is described as a “coliseum style horde-like mode” that “strips players of the Zombie Jammer device that provides perilous protection in multiplayer modes,” pitting players against waves of progressively harder creatures across multiple missions. The multiplayer maps will also be populated by the zombies of the Resident Evil series which gives a potentially unique twist to the online shooter genre.
The village from Resident Evil 4 is among the maps announced and shown off in the new trailer below. This game marks yet another push towards more action oriented genres by Capcom for the Resident Evil series. The saturated market for online shooters and the £24.99 price tag for a game with no story or full single-player mode may leave this game with a short life-span but it does at least look a whole lot better than Alone in the Dark: Illumination, Atari’s recent attempt at an online shooter. (Maybe attempt is too strong a word?) Anyway, Umbrella Corps will release for PC and PS4 on March 12th in Japan and will be followed by the Europe and US release within the same month.
