Bandai Namco today announced anime crossover game Super Robot Wars V for PlayStation 4 and Vita. The 25th Anniversary of the series will be marked by the release of both this game and the previously-announced Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers for PlayStation 4 and PS3. Notably, both games will see releases in other Asian territories with English language support. The Super Robot Wars franchise is notoriously elusive from the West due to the sheer number of anime franchises featured in the games, making these titles a licensing nightmare in America and Europe. Thankfully the confirmation of English text in the Asian edition means foreign fans can import these two games – so long as the publisher doesn’t screw us over and add a region-lock despite both these consoles being region-free (it happened before with Persona 4 Arena on PlayStation 3, and god was that agonising).
English text aside, Super Robot Wars V will feature mecha and characters from a bunch of returning, and new anime series. Ones you might recognise include Evangelion, Full Metal Panic!, Getter Robo, Mazinger, and a whole lot of Gundam. New to this game are the pirate-themed Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, and 2014’s Cross Ange. The turn-based strategy game will release sometime in 2017, and you can see some of the character attack animations in the debut trailer above.
