Valve’s Steam store has transformed this week with ‘The Discovery Update’; a redesign to the homepage with the aim of helping users find new games to purchase in the ever-expanding Steam library, which has seen over 1,300 new titles added in 2014 alone. A handy new function similar to what can be found in the Steam Greenlight voting pages is the Discovery Queue; a daily list of a dozen games recommended for you. You can then respond as to whether or not you are interested in the game, want to add it to your wishlist, or follow updates and news on the title.
The biggest new addition from this update is the Steam Curator system. You can now browse a list of ‘Curators‘, who are people, groups and organisations that recommend games to the Steam userbase. You can follow popular YouTube gaming personalities, news sites, or even groups set up to recommend specific genres. Recommendations can’t be any larger than a Tweet, but Curators can link to full reviews on websites or YouTube if their opinions pique your interest. Becoming a Curator isn’t too difficult either. You can create a group or use an existing one that you’re an admin of. Once you’ve recommended 10 games, your Curator profile will appear on the list.
Of course we here at GamesNosh are joining in on this program. We’ll be spotlighting games we’ve reviewed, as well as our favorite titles. So follow the “GamesNosh Community” group and take a look at our pick of great games available on Steam.
