It’s finally here: Sony came out of the gates swinging with an actual gameplay trailer for the almost perpetually absent The Last Guardian, a Team ICO game, and spiritual successor to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The game, which was announced back in 2007 for the PlayStation 3, was feared by many to be stuck firmly within the depths of development hell. But tonight, we were treated to an absolutely stunning PS4 demo depicting the protagonist traversing some extremely perilous looking ruins with what appears to be the titular “last guardian”, a gigantic, hound-like beast.
And what’s more, there is finally a planned release, sometime in 2016. Fans of designer Fumito Ueda and Team ICO’s previous titles should be able to rest a bit easier, secure in the knowledge that The Last Guardian is still alive and well after all these years, and that, if the trailer is to be believed, it’ll be a gaming experience sure to become another beloved classic.
