The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter project ended today, with a grand total of $6,333,295 donated towards to the game. The long-awaited closing chapter to Yu Suzuki’s trilogy of games met its goal of $2 million within nine hours of being on Kickstarter and holds the Guinness World Record for being the fastest video game to reach one million dollars on the site. Shenmue 3 also holds the distinction of overtaking Castlevania successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night as the most-funded game on Kickstarter.
Due to the six million dollars raised, the stretch goals fans can expect to see implemented include subtitles for various languages, five extra mini-games, a skill tree system and more. Stretch goals expanding on the combat system and range of minigames were not met, but it remains to be seen if investment from Sony will allow for these to be included in the finished game.
Shenmue 3 will have both physical and digital copies available for PlayStation 4 and PC. The much-anticipated sequel is projected to release in December of 2017.
