We reported last week on Kickstarter project Orphan. It’s a silhouetted 2D platformer which draws visual comparisons to Limbo, while taking inspiration from Another World/Out of This World, and Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. It deals with a young boy in the Appalachian countryside who has to survive in the wilderness following an alien invasion. Alone, he must use stealth and strategy to fight alien robots and steal their technology in order to escape.
The Orphan Kickstarter goal is $32,000 US Dollars for a finished release on PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam. Creators Windy Hill Studio have also added a PlayStation 4 port as a stretch goal. Studio owner Brandon Goins explained the reason for the addition:
“With Kickstarter support waning in the gaming community I set small goals with small tiers and tried to run a conservative campaign. Supporters are saying Orphan needed to go bigger, all the while I’m constantly asked by console gamers if Orphan is coming to PS4. I’m listening, and hoping these changes can help get the campaign back on track.”
If the main campaign is successful, Windy Hill Studio only needs $4,000 more dollars to bring the game to PS4. The stretch goal is $36,000 US Dollars, and the Kickstarter campaign is currently approaching $5,000 raised. Here’s hoping this alien invasion beauty finds its ways into our hands on its anticipated January 2016 release.
