The Legacy of Kain spin-off title Nosgoth, has been cancelled whilst still in beta. A beta that has been going on since January 2015 without the game having an official release. Yet Square-Enix has decided there is no hope for the multiplayer action game despite their attempts to draw new players. The free-to-play, humans vs vampires game was originally designed as the multiplayer add-on to cancelled Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun.
“This was not an easy decision to come to. It has been a pleasure to build this game with your help, but ultimately its audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations.” – Nosgoth Community Manager
Nosgoth, in my opinion, suffered massively from a lack of variety. (as most deathmatch style, competitive multiplayer games do) Marketing this kind of game to Legacy of Kain fans, who obviously savour the incredibly detailed story of the series, was verging on insanity and is probably why this game couldn’t get the momentum the publisher desired. However, there are many dedicated fans who took to the Square-Enix forums to express their disappointment, some even going as far as to say that fan feedback had been ignored. A petition on change.org is calling for the game to be given another of a chance.
Nosgoth servers will be shut down on May 31st.
