Nintendo just casually dropped the biggest hardware announcement of the year on Twitter. A 3-and-a-half minute trailer reveals the Nintendo NX officially as the Nintendo Switch. The system was long rumored and now confirmed to be a fusion of home console and handheld system. The controller has components sliding off the gamepad and attaching to a small screen with a cartridge slot for on-the-go gaming.
The system uses two detachable “Joy-Con” controllers, with some instances of multiplayer allowing two players to use one each.
What can you play on it? The trailer shows gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart, Splatoon, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Remastered and a new Mario 3D platformer. The Nintendo Switch is confirmed for March 2017 release, with details on pricing and launch line-up to follow in the coming months.
