In what may be one of the most apt of recent PR events Overkill Software and 505 Games yesterday found themselves just a couple of streets away from a bank robbery not too dissimilar from their popular Payday series, while currently promoting their latest release Payday 2: Crimewave Edition to Australian gaming press.
While at a local bar on Kent street which played host to the PR event, which featured demonstrations of the title and free promotional items for guests, least of which was the iconic heist masks that are apart of in game team’s disguises, that were also worn by promotional team members advertising outside the establishment.
It was around this time at 12:20 pm yesterday afternoon that in Elizabeth Street, Sydney, two men entered the Bendigo bank located around the central business district. The duo entered the bank wearing hooded sweaters and promptly demanded the cashier hand over their cash, The cashier gave the duo “an amount of cash” and they quickly departed. The duo are still to be at large, despite police gathering various witness statements and accounts surrounding the robbery.
Whether this is one of the most elaborate PR stunts or One hell of an fortunate/unfortunate? coincidence it will surely lend more attention to the series awareness in australia, which may not be beneficial as the developers other collaborative title Hotline Miami has faced scrutiny and even a ban on Australian shores for its controversal content.
Payday 2: Crimewave Edition will be out next month for PS4 and Xbox One, featuring updated graphic quality and will feature all the DLC already present on the on the PC and earlier console versions.[Sources]: http://www.playerattack.co.uk/news/2015/05/14/sydney-bank-robbed-during-payday-2-event/
