Yesterday, Los Angeles hosted a video game awards ceremony, The Game Awards 2015. Though Hideo Kojima was on the advisory board, he was not able to make it to the show due to some rather strange circumstances. On the night of the show The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley took to the stage and said:
“Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately, he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s awards ceremony to accept any awards. He’s still under an employment contract, it’s disappointing, and it’s inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers and his fellow teammates.”
The audience also booed at the mention of Konami then Geoff Keighley added that Hideo Kojima will be watching the ceremony from Tokyo. Hideo Kojima reportedly left Konami on October 9th, but is still under contract until this month.Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions did in fact win two awards for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Though it was not crowned game of the year by the 30 person panel stemming from all corners of gaming journalism, it was awarded ‘best action/adventure game’ & ‘best score/soundtrack’ over The Witcher 3, Ori & the Blind Forest, Halo 5 and Fallout 4…hmm.
