On the 11th of May 2015, game designer and producer Koji Igarashi, best known for his work on a plethora of Castlevania games, launched a Kickstarter campaign for a game entitled ‘Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.’ Needless to say it was funded rather quickly and has almost reached $1,000 000, double the initial goal.

The brilliantly funny pitch video has Igarashi explain that game publishers no longer feel the Metroidvania genre is relevant and he needs your help to prove them wrong. The game looks set to have a focus on exploration, RPG elements and crafting with multiple playable characters all set to a soundtrack done by Michiru Yamane who garnered some acclaim for her score to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night…and Ippo Yamada of Mega Man fame.

The $850 000 stretch goal (which at the time of writing is fast approaching) will see David Hayter, voice of Metal Gear’s Snake, hired as a voice actor for the game. From what can be seen of the game from the Kickstarter page, a lot of love will be going into this project, hopefully we’ll see more from the team soon!

I love his work on the Castlevania series, but at the same time, with how Mighty No. 9 and Broken Age art turning/ have turned out, I have to maintain my skepticism when famed developers of old games ask for money on Kickstarter.
