Polish studio Destructive Creations shot to notoriety last year with the controversial killing-spree game Hatred. Now they’re back on Steam Greenlight with a game sure to rustle the media once again. IS Defense is set in the year 2020, with Islamic State terrorists seizing control of North Africa, and proceeding to launch a full-scale invasion of Europe. In each mission, players are tasked with manning a machine gun nest, and fighting mercilessly against the invading ISIS forces. Destructive describes their motivation behind the title:
This game is our small side-project and is our personal veto against what is happening in the Middle East nowadays. As well as an attempt at resurrecting a pretty dead genre of games like Operation Wolf or Beach Head – in a state of the art, modern adaptation.
Just remember – between Nazis, Vietcong, Russians, and Iraqis; this is just another real-world war faction making its way to video games. So try not to worry about news of digital representations of violent armies – it’s nothing new, and I don’t think the Islamic State will need (or deserve) their feelings to be protected.
