Final Fantasy IX, fondly remembered as one of the very best games in the Final Fantasy series has been announced for PC and smartphones! The ports will be coming at some point in 2016, Square Enix announced earlier today in Japan.
As of yet, a Western release has not been announced, but following on from Square Enix tradition, a Western port shouldn’t be too far away, as has been the case with all of its other ports of the Final Fantasy series.
Square have not let on to how much they will be changing for the port, but the released trailer has shown sharper versions of the characters, displayed at a much higher-resolution, akin to their previous Final Fantasy ports. Square has promised “high-definition graphics, achievements, an auto-save feature, several features that will undoubtedly boost the gameplay and a high speed mode.” The “High speed mode” they are referring to should be in a similar fashion to the Final Fantasy VII port for the PS4.
Square Enix have certainly wasted no time in ushering in 2016, which as we have already seen should be a fantastic year for gaming. The excitement and hype is sure to only build from here on out, which means that Square Enix will definitely need to put some effort into it. Hopefully they’ll be able to compress the music this time, as opposed to falling back to MIDI files again for music.
